Today we had our first AAA time hosted by Totara. We sung songs, awards were given out and Totara shared some of their learning with us. At the end of the assembly we had time for some fun free time activities as a reward for doing our BEST. Congratulations to everyone who received an award!

Yesterday Caitlin, Lachlan, Luke S, Jordy, Adasyin and Charlie spoke to the class trying to convince them that they were the best representative for Room 12 as our student councillor.
Congratulations to Caitlin our new councillor and Jordy our deputy who got the most votes! Today we found out that a treaty is a type of agreement. We thought it would be a good idea to come up with a class treaty for us to sign to help our class be successful throughout the year. We changed the spelling of the word treaty to tree-ty because our class is Manuka; a native NZ tree. We got into groups and brainstormed some ideas. We are going to use these ideas to come up with a class set of rules that we agree on. On Tuesday 7th February we had a visitor come and talk to us at school. His name was Stephen and he had two dogs, Jake and Piccolo. He talked to us about a walk he was doing - the longest walk him and his dogs have ever done! They are walking around New Zealand to visit animal shelters, animal rescues and other animal welfare organisations in an effort to raise funds and awareness. He has built a mini camper van which has wheels and he pulls along with him. He used the camper van for him and his dogs to sleep in. Stephen thinks it will take most of the year to complete his walk. You can find out more or even donate by checking out his website. https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/thelongestwalknz Check out what we got up to over the summer holidays. Miss Taylor was awesome and gave us each an iPhone to take our photos! ;) You can check out our holiday texts on our classroom window or have a look here. Manuka - Room 12 have had a great first week back at school for 2016. We have been busy doing Handle the Jandal challenges, finding out about the triathlon and earning credits to spend in the Manuka shop. We also managed to find out a little about our class, label all our books and equipment and learn some of the routines. Well done Manuka on a great week!
